Observation of one of the rarest species in Middle East

After 116 years, a rare species, Lesser Flamingo was observed in Iran. Since 1904, this species was not observed and Ali Sajjad Jalali recorded it as a new species in Khuzestan province, on February, 6th, 2020.

Lesser Flamingo had been recorded only once in Kuhak, Sistan in 1904 in the southeast of Iran and this observation for the first time in Khuzestan and after more than a century in Iran is a valuable and rare event. In this observation, two Lesser Flamingos were in a flock of Greater Flamingos, which were filmed and photographed. Lesser Flamingo is a bird with the size of 85cm, has a dark bill and its neck and vent is pink and it is a different species from Greater Flamingo (which is 130cm). Congratulations to Mr. Jalali, the hardworking warden of Abadan who made this valuable and to other environmentalist
